Open Letter to Bush from NOLA paper

http://www.mediainfo.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001054586

We heard you loud and clear Friday when you visited our devastated city and the Gulf Coast and said, "What is not working, we’re going to make it right."

Please forgive us if we wait to see proof of your promise before believing you. But we have good reason for our skepticism.

Bienville built New Orleans where he built it for one main reason: It’s accessible. The city between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain was easy to reach in 1718.

How much easier it is to access in 2005 now that there are interstates and bridges, airports and helipads, cruise ships, barges, buses and diesel-powered trucks.

Despite the city’s multiple points of entry, our nation’s bureaucrats spent days after last week’s hurricane wringing their hands, lamenting the fact that they could neither rescue the city’s stranded victims nor bring them food, water and medical supplies.

Meanwhile there were journalists, including some who work for The Times-Picayune, going in and out of the city via the Crescent City Connection. On Thursday morning, that crew saw a caravan of 13 Wal-Mart tractor trailers headed into town to bring food, water and supplies to a dying city.

Television reporters were doing live reports from downtown New Orleans streets. Harry Connick Jr. brought in some aid Thursday, and his efforts were the focus of a "Today" show story Friday morning.

Yet, the people trained to protect our nation, the people whose job it is to quickly bring in aid were absent. Those who should have been deploying troops were singing a sad song about how our city was impossible to reach.

We’re angry, Mr. President, and we’ll be angry long after our beloved city and surrounding parishes have been pumped dry. Our people deserved rescuing. Many who could have been were not. That’s to the government’s shame.

Mayor Ray Nagin did the right thing Sunday when he allowed those with no other alternative to seek shelter from the storm inside the Louisiana Superdome. We still don’t know what the death toll is, but one thing is certain: Had the Superdome not been opened, the city’s death toll would have been higher. The toll may even have been exponentially higher.

It was clear to us by late morning Monday that many people inside the Superdome would not be returning home. It should have been clear to our government, Mr. President. So why weren’t they evacuated out of the city immediately? We learned seven years ago, when Hurricane Georges threatened, that the Dome isn’t suitable as a long-term shelter. So what did state and national officials think would happen to tens of thousands of people trapped inside with no air conditioning, overflowing toilets and dwindling amounts of food, water and other essentials?

State Rep. Karen Carter was right Friday when she said the city didn’t have but two urgent needs: "Buses! And gas!" Every official at the Federal Emergency Management Agency should be fired, Director Michael Brown especially.

In a nationally televised interview Thursday night, he said his agency hadn’t known until that day that thousands of storm victims were stranded at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. He gave another nationally televised interview the next morning and said, "We’ve provided food to the people at the Convention Center so that they’ve gotten at least one, if not two meals, every single day."

Lies don’t get more bald-faced than that, Mr. President.

Yet, when you met with Mr. Brown Friday morning, you told him, "You’re doing a heck of a job."

That’s unbelievable.

There were thousands of people at the Convention Center because the riverfront is high ground. The fact that so many people had reached there on foot is proof that rescue vehicles could have gotten there, too.

We, who are from New Orleans, are no less American than those who live on the Great Plains or along the Atlantic Seaboard. We’re no less important than those from the Pacific Northwest or Appalachia. Our people deserved to be rescued.

No expense should have been spared. No excuses should have been voiced. Especially not one as preposterous as the claim that New Orleans couldn’t be reached.

Mr. President, we sincerely hope you fulfill your promise to make our beloved communities work right once again.

When you do, we will be the first to applaud.

So, who the hell am I and what the hell is going on?

Hello Blog Readers....

I am D'Ann. By now you have noticed that my posts are a touch out of order and all posted on one date. No, I did not wake up this morning and decide to start posting every liberal thought that came into my pretty little head. I actually moved these from my previous blog for a variety of reasons. Please do not be alarmed that all are posted on the same day...I actually had these thoughts as these events were occurring.

Thank you for welcoming me to your blog community and I hope you enjoy the rants of a raging liberal!

Bring It On!

A break From Our Regularly Scheduled Programming....

Tonight Chief Justice William Rehnquist is dead at the ripe old age of 80. This means that Bush will get TWO Supreme Court nominations in less than one year. He will also get the appoint the new Chief Justice. God knows, this wil take his attention away from the Katirna victims that he promised he would not forget.

In the coming days much talk will surround the next appointment....and the liberals better be prepared. They thought Roberts was bad? Just wait!

Adieu Mr. Jennings....

Journalists mourn the loss of one of their own today. In a world where the news has become a business, it's important to remember the human factor. An anchor's face graces our screen every night-- somewhat like a talking head-- they bear relentless criticism from all sides. Thay are too liberal, they are too conservative, if it bleeds it leads. Tonight we mourn, we do not judge, we do not doubt.....we only think that we are grateful for people who will take the news seriously.

Here are some Jennings Quotes:

"I'm not a slave to objectivity. I'm never quite sure what it means. And it means different things to different people."

"Using Iraqi government figures, which we cannot verify - they may be high or they may be low, we do not know - almost 700 civilians have been killed in the country since the U.S. invaded. "

Tonight

Tonight people are dying...
Tonight children are without food and water...
Tonight parents can not change their baby's diaper, give them formula or comfort them as they cry in pain and hunger...
Tonight some of those parents will hold their children as they slip from this world into the next...
Tonight more than 1 million people are homeless...
Tonight more than 24,000 people are in a structure that is designed to hold 10,000 and they must evacuate...
Tonight those people have nowhere to go....
Tonight there is a pregnant woman stuck on roof as flood waters rise and threaten her life and the life of her unborn child...
Tonight there is a man who let go of his wife's hand and watched her be ripped away to her death while she begged for him to take care of their children and grandchildren...
Tonight there are parents who only wish they had the first day of school to look forward to...
Tonight there are parents who wish they had spent one more hour with their children...
Tonight there are people who will sit on their roof and wait again to be saved, knowing they might die...
Tonight there are people who have serious medical needs who will not survive because there is no electricity, medication or places to take them...
Tonight rescuers are marking homes with red paint to indicate there is a dead body inside...
Tonight homes and lives are destroyed...
Tonight there is so little hope for so many people...
Tonight let's please not worry about gas, politics or anything else....
Tonight people will die, tonight please say a payer for them....
Tonight as you eat your dinner and tuck your children into bed, be grateful
Tonight give those you love an extra hug...
Tonight thank God that you are not among them....

"Culture of Life?"

"I think it's important to promote a culture of life. I think a hospitable society is a society where every being counts and every person matters. I believe the ideal world is one in which every child is protected in law and welcomed to life."
George Bush, October 13, 2004

"The essence of civilization is that the strong have a duty to protect the weak. In cases where there are serious doubts and questions, the presumption should be in favour of life."
George Bush on Terry Schiavo

"...But on Saturday, hope was overtaken by frustration as people continued to wait. A dead man lay on sidewalk under a blanket with a stream of blood running down the pavement toward the gutter. People said he died from violence."
Robert Tanner AP Writer

NOLA

"United States National Guardsmen reached New Orleans Convention Centre on Friday with the first food and water for a small number of the 20 000 refugees who have been living - some dying - during five days of neglect."
News24.com

Where is the outrage from Mr. Bush? The media made a big deal about the fact that he cut his vaction two days short to come home a deal with the national disaster....the man got up in his pj's to sign "Terry's Law" and we are going to give him kudos for coming home from Crawford , Texas to throw a few bones to the thousands suffering in NOLA?

Where is the outrage from the "moral majority?" Hundreds of them protested the removal of Terry Schiavo's feeding tube. However, as Doctors in NOLA practice third-world medicine and watch people die, whose lives could have been saved if they's had even the basics, the moral majority is no where to be found.

Where is the unbelieveable effort that was waged to save ONE WHITE WOMAN in Fla? Where are the protests as thousands of people starve to death in NOLA? This is not a culture-of-life...it is a culture of neglect and racsism.

This is a tragedy of epic proportions and one that will not be soon forgotten. May God have mercy on the very souls that claim to pray to him evey day.

What has a Liberal done for you lately?

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE REPUBLICAN Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare
his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging
liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His
medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal
fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical
plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid
medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is
safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate
the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is
properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total
contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was
putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he
breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought
for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to
work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees
because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public
transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor. Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay,
medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some
lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joes
employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his
employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker
compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't
think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some
bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some
godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who
ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his
below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided
that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more
money over his lifetime. Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at
his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car
is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal
fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. His
was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home
Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The
house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his
nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives
on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking,
cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe
wouldn't have to. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk
show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives
are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought
against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe
agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives!
After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of
themselves, just like I have."

Country Road Take Me Home

Top U.S. military officials announced yesterday that significant numbers of troops would be coming home as early as next spring or summer-- the only thing the Iraqis have to do is:
write a constitution elect a government stop the insurgence Ummmm---yeah, those are ONLY things they have to do! The reality is, Bush will pull a Vietnam and declare victory, bring them home just in time for the midterm elections. While i want to bring our troops home, if we leave that region in an unstable state (not that it's terribly stable now), we WILL have caused a civil war that the mideast from which the middle east may never recover.

Sadly, Bush is once again putting our troops in harms way to propel a political agenda.
